The New Rail Link through the Alps or NRLA
is the largest transport project Switzerland has seen for decades.
It will strengthen Switzerland's standing within Europe and connect the northern and southern parts of the continent. Its best known structures are the new rail tunnels through the Lötschberg, Gotthard and Ceneri mountains. The NRLA marks the culmination of a century of rail history. To understand the NRLA is to understand Switzerland itself and its function as a European transit hub.
