Traffic flows and the infrastructure that transports them need to be coordinated. That is the conclusion of the «Overall Transport Strategy». (1977, Swiss Federal Archives)

The commission of experts drafting a comprehensive transport policy overview for the Federal Council presents its report on 25 February 1977. It recommends that goods traffic should continue to travel by rail, or be transferred back to it. The report signals a shift towards a coordinated transport policy and extending funding to the various transport sectors. Major rail projects - notably the NRLA - are executed on the basis of the overall transport strategy.

« Switzerland was interested in maximising transit volumes because it was able to make money from these. »
